Chico and Napa Valley
July 10th-11th
The drive from Portland, Oregon to San Francisco, California was doable but Greg and I decided we wanted to break it up, giving us a chance to stop in Chico, home of the Sierra Nevada Brewery, and Napa Valley.
We got up early the next morning and drove to to the park nearby, another suggestion from Ryan, to go for a run. It was a really nice run along a stream with a little shade and around a baseball park. We realized how much we took for granted to greenness of our former locations among the brown that surrounded us in California. Next up: Napa!
Napa Valley is about half way from Chico to San Francisco so we figured we would stop there for lunch and a wine tasting before making our way to San Francisco. Napa was awesome. We went to a great little lunch place and then to a couple winery’s getting some samples at each. People were so nice at all of these places and so knowledgeable about wine. Greg and I are not wine connoisseurs by any means, but man, you know when you’ve had good wine. Greg and I are also suckers. We ended up going home with three bottles of wine and as members of a wine club. In our defense, the Wine club fee absorbed the cost of our tasting and was discounted because of the dry summer, and at the other winery it was buy one get one FREE. WHAT. So it was awesome. In retrospect, we should have spent a night in Napa and taken the time to really enjoy it. But we are always on the move so it’s on to San Francisco where we’ll be for our longest stay. THREE full days!
Here’s the wineries we went to in case anyone is interested:
